Tuesday, March 1, 2011

Patients with migraine are two times more susceptible to strokes caused by blood clots than those who are non-migraine pain, according to findings published by the American Journal of Medicine.

The specialists do not believe the relationship between the two diseases, and migraine is not known whether the main cause of stroke for some patients. However, these trends have the same basic processes that contribute to migraine or stroke risk, a senior researcher Dr. Saman Nazarian, who is also assistant professor at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore.

He tells Reuters that the current basic points to a migraine patients is that they must be very vigilant to control all the factors that are at risk of stroke. Some risk factors include high blood pressure, smoking and diabetes. "The first thing I want to everyone to get away is it. If they get a migraine, they should think about stroke risk factors," said Nazarian, and adding, "They should not smoke and they should attention their blood pressure and do care if it is high. "

The cause of migraine is not known exactly full, but the disease that involves the constriction of blood vessels, and swelling of a blood vessel in the brain.

One theory says people with migraine can be affected by dysfunction in the arteries in the whole body, which increases the risk of stroke. Not yet known whether it can treat and prevent migraine attacks will affect the risk of cardiovascular problems. On the one hand, researchers have noted, medicines to prevent migraine attacks in theory lower the risk of cardiovascular problems. On the other, certain medications can give a bad effect, some anti-inflammatory analgesic medicine have been associated with cardiovascular risk, while the medicine tended to constrict the artery migraine in the whole body.
